Who Can Take Part?

The Insurance Golf League is open to adult golfers working in insurance businesses in the UK. Players register as either a club member with a handicap or a non-club member without a handicap.

Club members with a handicap

Club members with a valid handicap can submit handicap qualifying (home or away from within the UK) and non-handicap qualifying, individual Stableford and Stroke scores.

Handicap qualifying scores are used for the handicap league for which prizes are based on league position. The scores of winning players will be checked with their club handicap records.

Non Handicap qualifying scores are used for the non-handicap league for which awards are based on the wild card draw.

Non Club members without a handicap

Non club members without a handicap can submit non-handicap qualifying, individual Stableford and Stroke scores.

As non-handicap qualifying scores cannot be verified, prize awards are based on the wild card draw.

Every score subjected to an automated handicap adjustor, the bonus of establishing a (unofficial) handicap and playing record.

Points

For stroke scores you enter gross strokes, CSS/SSS, and for handicap qualifying scores your current handicap. The system calculates and maintains an handicap for each non-qualifying score submitted.

For Stableford points you enter points achieved, PAR and CSS/SSS and the system automatically converts the score to a stroke equivalent. Stableford points for non-handicap qualifying scores are calculated according to the system maintained handicap.

The system automatically converts Stableford scores to a net stroke equivalent on the basis of 37 points = level. Net scores are awarded points as follows:

+9=20, +8=25, +7=30, +6=40, +5=50, +4=60, +3=70, +2=80, +1=90, Level=105, -1=125, -2=155, -3=195, -4=295, -5=395, -6=495, -7=525, -8=545, -9=565. Each stroke better than -10 is awarded with 5 points and each stroke worse than +9 has one point deducted from the +9 score of 20 points.

League Divisions

The league structure allows you to compete with colleagues and fellow industry professionals irrespective of geographical location or handicap status.

Division 1: Handicap qualifying scores – prizes won by league position
Division 2: Non-handicap qualifying scores – prizes won by draw
Division 3: Combined handicap qualifying and non-handicap qualifying scores – no prizes to be won

Score entry is simple – just follow the prompts and the system applies your score to the correct division(s) and updates your position in real time.

How many scores should I submit?

The system automatically ranks you according to the aggregate points from your best three current scores plus token points for every score you submit.

Just submit every individual Stableford and Stroke score you achieve and the system automatically calculates your position. And remember, non-handicap qualifying scores will enable you to maintain an (unofficial) playing and handicap record.

How do I know other players' scores are genuine?

The Insurance Golf League is constantly monitored and every score submitted is seen by the Tournament Office.

The handicap qualifying scores of winning players are checked meticulously with their club handicap records which we obtain directly from their clubs.

Non handicap qualifying scores cannot be verified, awards are therefore made on the basis of wild card draw. Players winning a wild card draw will be asked to submit two scorecards signed by their playing partner and a club official for the purpose of verifying that the rounds were played rather than the accuracy of the scores.

What can I win?

a) Handicap League (handicap qualifying scores – scores of winning players will be verified with their clubs)

The top ranked player as at 31 October will win a 2-nights stay in Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links, plus one hour tuition with top Golf Professional Barry Power, then practice with a complimentary round of golf on the Championship Bernhard Langer Portmarnock Golf Links.

b) Non Handicap League (non-handicap qualifying scores)

A prize of a 2-nights stay stay in Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links, plus one hour tuition with top Golf Professional Barry Power, then practice with a complimentary round of golf on the Championship Bernhard Langer Portmarnock Golf Links will be awarded by wild card draw.
